I do think that its unfair that a factions player who started on day one can only get a mini that he could have bought in town the same day that he started. It's a lame gift.

This is a complaint about first year minipets, not second year minipets, and applies to people who actually want them because they havent gotten them yet.
Agreed

First year pets should be retired so as not to over populate them. Factions first year birthdays should get something special - It is a STAND ALONE game - and the same with Nightfall. People who were there when these were first released were there from the begining and deserve equal treatment.

Even though I hear people claiming that Minipets were only wanted by the minority, and according to them, countless polls prove that. Unfourtenaly I have yet to see a poll proving that Minipets weren't the most preffered gift.

Someone PLEASE give me a link to those polls everyone is reffering to.

here is the poll you are worshiping.

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10125747

note the following points.

1. more than 50 % of choices got less than a miniper (7/12)

2. the next 2 highest choices were less than 3% above the miniper (2/12)

3. the next highest choice wanted a selection from the same choices (maybe they couldnt make uo their minds)

4. the grand winner at only 20% was an aura they could flash.

you can not please that poll group no matter what Anet chose to give.

also we do not have the cumulative worldwide poll results which Anet does.

if there had a clearcut winner as to what MOST wanted that would have been it.

People seriously wanted an aura over a mini-pet?!?

I'm sorry, but that's just stupid. That should be a CE bonus (Maybe for GW2?), not a gift.

Wow a war between the two sides; the ones who want mini-pets and the ones who do not for their character second birthday. (sarcasm) Did not see this coming after it was explained for the first time it was going to be new mini’s going to be released. (sarcasm) My only question to A-net now is one in which; “How easy is it to make a mini-pet from the first time you made one, till now?” Then I would ponder on what I think of all this. Otherwise I have no opinion either way.

In all respects I do like some of the new miniatures very much so, because they just add to the old line. Maybe in year three of GW you will see others like Glint and all. As for the grown up mini Gwen you might see her in Eye of the North.

Didn't think so.

As to why there is a birthday mini, well, we conducted numerous polls in several langauges, but there was there was no clearcut "other thing" called out by fans. Sure, there were about a hundred ideas, but none of them were resoundingly the conclusive "vote of the masses" for a birthday gift. In the collected votes, miniatures were a very highly-rated choice, and received more votes than any other single alternative. In the end, the designers chose something that they felt would be fun and enjoyable, and something that players can keep, sell, or trade, as they see fit.

It's a gift. Enjoy it, or not, but please get over the negative attitude, it contributes nothing to the discussion here.
First time I've ever seen Gaile with such a furious aura. O.o

BUT!
She's right, imho. I wouldn't be surprised if ANet replaced ALL minipets with a lump of charcoal. >.>
How's that for a B-Day present?

As for the new set of minipets? I retract my earlier statement of very few of them being cute...

MINIATURE WATER DJINN FTW!!!

And Gwen. >.>

ANET! Thank you, once again, for these wonderful (and very cute) Miniatures!
I unfortunately must say, however, if I get a mini that is not amiable to me, I'll trade it for a Djinn. No offense, of course, ANet. >.>

Regardless of my opinion on this matter the mini's are here to stay. There's no amount of bitching that you can do to change it. Polls do not matter at this point. Your opinions do not matter at this point. New mini's for your 2nd birthday are here to stay and there's nothing you can do about it.

IMHO 1/2 of this post is a waste of bandwidth...

There is no reason to bash Gaile and Anet it serves no purpose (they obviously are not listening). For the record I think Gailes reply was very rude and not good business practice for ANet but I'm not going to caller her names because I disagree.

And lastly for the record I hate that we got minis for our 2nd bday. Something more unique would have been nice. I will be selling mine unless it's a Djinn, Lich, or Bull. The rest of them are pretty much garbage. If I get an Elf or Gwen I will be promptly selling it for whatever I can get and sticking to my Mini Charr Shaman.

Guys please keep the language toned down it's not helping the situtation...

Take this simple analogy: Your friend (we'll call him Bob) gave you a plushie for your birthday almost a year ago, and you were happy with it at first, it was cute, maybe it even made funny noises. Nevertheless, after awhile you lost interest in it and it ended up sitting in your closet for the rest of the year. Now, almost up to your birthday again and Bob comes and asks "hey, I'm thinking I might get you another plushie this year, is there one in particular you'd like?", to which you reply "well actually I'm kind of tired of plushies now, I'd really rather something else."

Bob doesn't respond, but finally your birthday roles around, you open your present, curious to see what your friend decided to get you... and find another plushie. To make matters worse, your friend has been handing out plushies like candy to everyone they know, so any value it has as far as just being a special gift from a friend is absolutely nil. Effectively the plushie has no value to you, not even as a gift as you've already told your friend that it wasn't something you really wanted, so you feel more than a little disappointed that they didn't listen to you.

The important point here is that I believe for many players, the desire was not for a specific item, it was for something that wasn't a minipet which quickly loses its appeal and just isn't special anymore and it hasn't been for a long time. Saying that since there was no clear consensus between the players on what other item they'd want is a weak argument that misses the point entirely.

Now I'm not going to go into some big rant as to how I'm going to quit the game or that ANet never listens to us, because we both know that isn't true. All I'm going to say is that I'm disappointed, and that your blithe dismissal of what I feel is a very valid complaint adds nothing to this discussion.
This is exactly what I believe as well. Well stated and the perfect example.

To carry it further, I'd just like to add, that you're still my friend. But if you want to give me a gift next year (you don't have to) give me something other than a plushie.

Oh hell no. An aura would be so cool. Not the silly Divine Aura thing. Something like where you refined your armor in ROSE. That would rock so hard, and make the 2nd year characters stand out.

Mini-pets are Birthday gifts. Deal.
Why would I think that? Well cause I have a little hope that, like previous times, they would listen and at least pay some heed to the ideas shared. Something different could be anything or heck even nothing. Just a stop with the minis or at least decrease the amount that seem to be flooding into the game.

soooo complaining about minipets is being ungrateful, but if it wass an aura thats just stupid? O.O ... well, aura would serve its purpose better: a vet reward item to show your status, without being purchasable by rich newbies...

??? So, you'd rather have nothing at all? Sounds like you don't want your precious mini's to decrease in value. If that's the reason you're against new mini's, that is a poor reason.

Get this straight: The Birthday gifts were cool and unexpected last year. But now, just because Anet did another realy cool, fun thing, people expect more. This attitude, in the end, hurts all of us, becuase it discourages Anet from doing cool stuff in the future...

after all, if working to give people something new just causes people to complain, then why give anything at all? I understand you don't want more minis to "flood" the market, but please consider others with your comments. The majority of players like the idea of birthday gifts, and would rather have something than nothing.

Even if you hate Mini-pets, it takes no time to give them away or delete them.

Of those that you listed as "much better" I would only agree with The Blasphemy, the other ones, especially the Princes would not be of much interest to me. Human miniatures in general hold no interest for me. Mini-pet-human? Odd.

It's all a matter of opinion concerning the mini-pets. Anet is not required to give of us a birthday present, or special event weekens for that matter...

Yet a good number of players are whining like spoiled children, about the *their* bad birthday present. Grow-up and stop complaining so much about a free gift.

However, I am absolutely positive that you did say that second birthday presents would be different after birthday miniatures were released last year.

As for one clearcut thing, I am of the opinion that the way the polls were conducted was incorrect, and obviously gave you the option to use the easy way out.
Instead of offering multiple different options, they should have asked:
"Do you want miniatures for your second birthday, yes or no?".

I am positive that you would have received an overwhelming "No" vote.
She said it would be a completely DIFFERENT SET OF MINITURES! Idiot.

IMO, having an aura as a gift would be stupid. Eventually, everyone turns older, and everyone would have one.

The point of Mini-pets are not to show off your "veteren-ess." They are just a new thing to trade and collect. Hell, half the fun of mini-pets is the market they created. Why else do people bother to try and get a mini-Mallyx?

Thank you ANet for another round of mini-pets and providing me with plenty of laughs from all the whining posts. I look forward to seeing what my warrior gets in a few hours (I wish I could remember what time he was created). And thank you for it not being something I'm stuck with permanently. At least I can sell/trade it if I don't like it, which the odds are leaning towards I will be selling/trading it.

My only question is... what is up with the wintersday elf mini?! Definitely thumbs down on whoever thought that up. Why couldn't you have given us a cool MONSTER instead? Or even a mini Mad King if you wanted a holiday mini! Oh well. Can't win them all :/

*crosses fingers for Fire Imp or something I can sell for loads of plat and ectos*

That's a good point. A bunch of people don't like minis anymore,ok. but don't tell people to just deal with it and then say anything else would be stupid.

Minis were so awesome when they came out. But the more they add, the less special they are.

Personally I think the set for this year is lamer than last year's. I just hope I get one that is worth something so I can sell it for a big profit.

NO SHE DIDN'T. Gaile never said what it would be. She said minis seemed like the popular choice, but specifically pointed out that her thread was NOT a "the present WILL be minis" thread, then proceeded to ask for all input.
